Starboard GO 172L + Synergy 6.7 Windsurfing Set
A stable and versatile set for learning and freeride
A complete set based on the Starboard GO 172L board and the Starboard Synergy 6.7 sail is a proposal for people who are looking primarily for stability, easy handling and fast progress.
The GO 172L is a wide, very stable board designed both for beginners and for windsurfers developing their planing skills. The GO construction combines high buoyancy with a shape that allows for smooth acceleration and increasingly dynamic riding as skills develop. The 172 model is 258 cm long and 84 cm wide, and its recommended sail range is 6.5-10.0 m2.
The Synergy 6.7 sail provides a light and easy-to-handle setup, well suited to the character of a large board. The set is completed by the Reflex RDM 460 mast, the Infinity Excellent 185-245 boom, the Infinity RDM mast foot, the Infinity Excellent universal joint, and the Infinity Quick Fix 26" fixed harness lines.
This is a configuration that lets you start with calm riding on a large, stable board, and then gradually move on to the harness, footstraps and planing.

What's included in the set?
Board: Starboard GO 172L
The Starboard GO 172L is one of the most versatile boards in the GO family. Its 84 cm width and high buoyancy provide very good stability, thanks to which a beginner user can focus on learning technique instead of constantly fighting for balance. The 172 model is 258 cm long and is equipped with three rows of footstrap positions, so the setup can be adjusted to the skill level.
The GO uses a long, flat section of the bottom, which helps with efficient acceleration and makes it easier to start planing. A deep V, on the other hand, provides good control during faster riding.
A big advantage of the GO is that it can be used both as a stable board for learning and later as a full-fledged freeride board. As skills develop, you can move to a more sporty stance in the footstraps and make use of more of the board's potential.
Key advantages:
-
172 liters of buoyancy,
-
84 cm of width,
-
258 cm of length,
-
very high stability,
-
easy acceleration,
-
early planing,
-
three rows of footstrap positions,
-
a wide range of use,
-
a large EVA deck surface,
-
Starlite construction,
-
can be used as both a progressive and a freeride board.
Sail: Starboard Synergy 6.7
The Synergy 6.7 was chosen as a light and easy-to-handle sail for the large GO board. The 6.7 m2 size is at the lower end of the recommended range for the GO 172 (6.5-10.0 m2), which keeps the set easy to master and works well for learning too.
Combined with the GO's high buoyancy, the sail doesn't require a lot of physical strength from the user. This is especially important when learning proper stance, working with the harness, and making your first attempts at planing.
Key advantages:
-
a surface area of 6.7 m2,
-
easy handling,
-
a light character,
-
a good range of use,
-
an easy match with the large GO board,
-
a configuration suitable for learning and freeride.
Mast: Starboard Reflex RDM 460
The Reflex RDM 460 is a light and responsive base for the Synergy sail. The RDM construction provides comfortable handling of the sail and makes it easier to operate during maneuvers.
The use of the RDM mast fits well with the character of the whole set, especially when the priority is easy handling and comfort during longer sessions.
Key advantages:
-
RDM 460 cm,
-
a slim construction,
-
comfortable sail handling,
-
easy maneuvering,
-
low set weight,
-
a good match with the freeride character.
Boom: Infinity Excellent 185-245 cm
The Infinity Excellent is an aluminum boom designed for freeride and everyday use. The large 185-245 cm adjustment range means it can also be used with other sails.
The solid construction provides adequate stiffness, and the ergonomic tube profile allows for comfortable sail handling during longer rides.
Key advantages:
-
an aluminum construction,
-
a 185-245 cm range,
-
a large adjustment range,
-
good stiffness,
-
a comfortable grip,
-
versatile use.
Mast foot: Infinity RDM
The Infinity RDM foot provides a secure connection between the mast and the board and allows for free movement of the sail while riding.
Combined with the GO 172L, it forms a classic, simple windsurfing configuration, suitable both for learning and for later freeride.
Universal joint: Infinity Excellent
The Infinity Excellent is a solid and durable solution for connecting the sail rig to the board. Its construction fits well with the character of the whole set, whose main goal is ease of use and versatility.
Harness lines: Infinity Quick Fix 26"
The Infinity Quick Fix 26" is a fixed harness line with a quick-mount system. It allows the lines to be easily attached or removed without having to disassemble the boom.
A length of 26" is a versatile choice for freeride and works well when learning to properly use the harness.
Key advantages:
-
a length of 26",
-
a fixed construction,
-
the Quick Fix system,
-
fast assembly and disassembly,
-
versatile use,
-
a repeatable setting.
How does this set behave on the water?
The GO 172L provides very high stability and easy acceleration, and the 6.7 m2 keeps the whole set's character light and easy to handle. The long, flat section of the bottom helps with a smooth planing start, while the wide construction gives a lot of confidence underfoot.
The set works best for learning the harness, footstraps and first planing, but thanks to the three footstrap positions it can also be used after reaching a higher level.
It's above all a comfortable, stable progressive set that lets you move from learning the basics to relaxed freeride.
Hydrosfera's opinion
This is a very interesting configuration for someone who wants to buy a large board for the long term, instead of trading it in for a more advanced model after a few weeks of learning.
The GO 172L gives a huge margin for error. 84 cm of width and 172 liters mean the user has plenty of time to correct their stance, work the sail or prepare for a tack. At the same time, the GO construction is not a typical "training board" that reaches the end of its potential once the basics are mastered. The manufacturer designs it precisely as a board that lets you move from your first attempts to more dynamic riding.
The Synergy 6.7 is a sensible choice here if the priority is ease of handling. At this board size there's no need for a very large sail to achieve stable and comfortable riding.
It's worth noting, however, that 6.7 m2 is at the lower end of the GO 172's sail range, so this set will be especially friendly and easy to handle, but it won't use the board's maximum potential in lighter wind. A larger sail can be added later for earlier planing.
In short: a very stable and comfortable set for learning and progression, which lets you calmly master the basics and then move on to the harness, footstraps and your first fast freeride.
