Description
IMAGINE COMBINING THE JUMP N' RIDE FREEMOVE FEATURES OF DUKE SAIL WITH THE CAPABILITIES OF D/LAB'S WAVE SUPER HERO. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE? FOR US THIS WAS A MAIN MOTIVATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW DUKE SLS!
The return of DUKE as a 5-batten Jump N' Ride sail two years ago was a huge success. It immediately became the most used and popular sail in ION CLUB and DUOTONE PRO CENTERS worldwide.
Now with DUKE SLS we take this concept to the extreme! But instead of simply changing materials, we created this sail from the ground up to use the full potential of the materials and give it extra character. Because depending on the board, the DUKE SLS behaves like a chameleon:
-On boards with less resistance (e.g. Freewave or small freeride boards) the DUKE SLS has a slight forward pull (similar to the original DUKE).
-On boards with more resistance (multi-fin wave boards) the pull is evenly distributed on both hands. On such boards the new DUKE SLS has a very similar feel to the SUPER_HERO D/LAB, which makes it really suitable even in conditions for real wave sailing.
How is this achieved?
It is a combination of an extremely advanced sail concept (3d-shaping, turn pattern and profile layout) and the use of CARBON XPLY batten pockets. The DUKE SLS has a slightly more advanced draft position but with a defined flex. We call this the DEFINED DRAFT MOTION CONCEPT. Normally this would be impossible in sails with “soft” epoxy battens, because any draft movement reduces the wind range. But this is where the CARBON XPLY pockets come in: because the carbon has virtually no stretch, they lock the battens and hold the draft in a defined position – very similar to full carbon battens, in fact.
Believe it or not, we have practically combined the advantages of the original DUKE with those of the SUPER HERO D/LAB, creating the ultimate 5-batten Wave><Freewave sail.
What about power in the low end?
5-batten Wave sails provide great control, but usually lose out in the low end because more battens make it harder for the wind to inflate the sail. That's why we introduced the BATTEN FREE CENTER concept, which we already use in the SUPER_HERO and the original DUKE. Instead of the usual even spacing of the battens, the DUKE SLS has a larger gap between the battens above and below the boom. This allows the boom area to fill with wind more easily, resulting in power in the lower range similar to a 4-batten sail.
But that's not all: thanks to the additional use of CARBON XPLY in the high load area (top and tack) and the STRIPPED TO THE MAX panel layout, it has been possible to reduce the weight by an impressive 400-500g compared to the original DUKE.
So what's stopping you - the DUKE SLS is the first sail that combines the advantages of a Freewave sail with true wave performance!
Key features:
- Character chameleon
The first sail that combines the advantages of a Freewave sail with true wave capabilities. - SLS >> STRONG-LIGHT-SUPERIOR
400-500 g lighter than the original DUKE. - Batten free center
Larger gap between batten in the foot and batten above the boom >> better inflation (planning power) in the boom area and improved stability in the upper part of the sail. - VTS System
Each sail has individually defined visual guidelines for correct trim (requires VTS TAIL boom). - iROCKET 2.0
Factory calibrated tensions of individual battens using a torque wrench. - SUPER-LIGHT BUMPER inkl. VTS slot
The best protective bumper on the market. Integrated vinyl window allows easy visibility of the lower edge of the mast. Once you've found your ideal setting, an optional hook-and-loop patch lets you "save" that position - saving time and ensuring maximum efficiency.
