North Sails Free Speed
5.2 · 6.0 · 6.8 · 7.7

Description

The new North Sail FreeSpeed sail closely follows the design profile of the Slalom Race sail, while providing maximum performance at both ends of the scale. Speed really is effortless and easy to achieve. To increase performance by taking full advantage of 3Di shaping, we are able to build impressive stability, acceleration and propulsion into a camless sail. The sail acceleration is optimally centered, providing the perfect balance between planing, handling and maximum efficiency. It reaches maximum speed and sails upwind with a flick of the wrist. Designed for maximum planing efficiency on the fin. When it comes to comfort, the camless, lightweight 6-batten configuration means maneuvers are a breeze. Rigging is very fast
and easy with the EZ Downhaul 2 in 1 system, which fits perfectly with MDM or RDM masts and extensions. A radically different camless sail, designed for fin sailing, unlike any sail currently available on the market. Revolutionary windsurfing technology, brought to you exclusively by North Sails. Go Beyond.

Features:

  • 3Di molding technology
  • Integrated material reinforcements
  • Integrated pockets for slats
  • Rock-it slat tensioner

< span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;">Technology:

  1. 3Di Molded Technology
3D molding of sails defines their shape. This means we can add unlimited shapes or twists to the sails without being limited to
the position of the battens. 3Di covering can transition seamlessly from thicker sections that hold tension and resist impact,
to other areas of the sail that are thinner, lighter and softer. 3Di Molding provides unlimited precision in sailmaking, unmatched in the world of windsurfing.

  2. Construction Profile
The sail profile, construction and twist are directly inspired by our racing sail, but this sail is additionally focused on accessibility and handling. By taking full advantage of 3Di shaping, we are able to build impressive stability, acceleration and propulsion into a camless sail. The very low physical weight combined with a low center of gravity completely revolutionizes the experience on the water. The 6.8 sail weighs only 3.6 kg! The sail acceleration is nicely centered in the sail, providing the best balance between planing, handling and performance. The sail accelerates to maximum speed and rides upwind with a flick of the wrist. The camless configuration makes maneuvers a breeze, and rigging is very quick and easy. All sizes are designed with a 6-batten configuration.

  3. 3Di Dyneema Aramid Tape with Carbon Helix SL structure
The best sails are made from a carefully developed blend of the best materials. That's why 3Di sails are made from Dyneema Aramid. Dyneema is up to 15 times stronger than steel. It has very high energy absorption and very low stretch.
It is extremely resistant to wear, moisture and UV radiation. Aramid is what holds all the Dyneema fibers together. The end result is a composite sail that can be precisely 3D molded from one piece without monofilm*. The sail is very strong
and has a very direct feel. The Helix SL carbon fiber load path inside the sail, running from the tack to the top, makes the sail feel better in the hands. It instantly translates the wind into forward propulsion with a flick of the wrist.
    (*except window).

  4. Integrated Material Reinforcements
3Di composite materials are layered onto the sail in the form of tapes that are cross-linked and thermoformed together into a one-piece composite sail. These tapes are placed in any orientation and layered into reinforced areas where required. This is done without the use of panels or seams. At the end of the day, the sail comes together seamlessly on microscopic levels.
From a strong sail in the lower part of the sail and the clew to a lightweight sail in the upper part where the sail needs to breathe
and twist. Precisely using the right amount of material in the right orientation results in a sail that is significantly lighter
and stronger than any other windsurf sail.

  5. Integrated Double Tunnel Batten Pockets
Between the layers of the sail we use a special material, machine laid, to create batten pockets. This is now reinforced with an additional layer of 3Di on both sides of the sail, creating a "double tunnel" around the batten. No seams, no panels to join, no stitching. The material bonds to the Dyneema aramid fibers, but does not bond to itself. This gives the sail a
100% seamless and continuous fiber lay, a fully integrated batten tunnel, allowing the sail and its battens to withstand the heaviest of impacts. Complex material technology with intelligent results.

  6. Rock-it batten tensioner
Tool-free batten adjustment at the water's edge. Just unlock, open, adjust, close, lock and you're done.

  7. EZ Clew
With EZ Clew, it doesn't matter whether you're riding waves or racing. It's compatible with either a loop-loop-go sail system or a more conventional line pull system. No matter the boom, the rig is always perfect.

  8. EZ downhaul 2 in 1
Dual function pulley. The 8 to 1 pulley features large, low-friction plastic pulleys and is carefully
built into the lower part of the tack fairing. Perfectly fits MDM extensions and masts for easy selection and maximum efficiency.
Otherwise, the outer parts of the pulley can also be used with a simple loop-loop-go system based on extensions
    and rdm masts.
